It's time to start getting your "Summer-Glow-Bronzed" Skin!

Here are some Tips & Tricks:

1.) Exfoliate your skin in the shower with one of Clin-Spa's many body scrubs from gloSpa or Epicuren.

2.) In the morning, after your shower apply my 2 favorite products. First, apply Neutrogena's SUMMER GLOW, Daily Moisturizer with SPF 20 all over your body. With each use you'll gradually build a natural, healthy glow while you moisturize your skin and protect it from the sun. This product has the absolute BEST, LIGHT, FRESH SCENT! (I even use it as sun protection at the beach and pool). Then, use my other favorite bronzer by Rhonda Allison, (which is currently offered at 40% off), a body bronzing lotion which gives the skin an immediate sun kissed golden glow.

3.) Immediately after applying the 2 products, wash your hands, then use an old wash cloth, paper towel or tissue to gently "rub-off" some of the product on the knees, elbows, sides of feet, ankles, inside of arms, or any place the sun does not "normally" shine on, or areas of the body where there is thick skin, as body bronzers will tend to show up darker where there is thicker skin, and can end up looking not as natural. To avoid streaking, remember to really massage the product into the skin.

4.) Let the products dry for at least 15 to 20 minutes before getting dresses. Take this time to do your normal morning routine such as brushing your teeth, applying your makeup, styling your hair, etc.

5.) Have fun enjoying your bronzed body. You will look better in Spring and Summer brightly colored Makeup and clothes.

P.S. Bronzed skin really makes you look slimmer!

Lomilomi Massage

What's New and Noteworthy at Luxury Spas; Available at Clin-Spa

At Clin-Spa, our licensed massage therapist are trained in the very effective LOMILOMI MASSAGE TECHNIQUE.

Lomilimi is part of Hawaii's traditional medicine, and practiced by virtually all native Hawaiians, evolving into countless variations: A martial-arts-inspired style which resembles chiropractic work, using long, flowing motions and/or "pinch and knead" healing. (Lomi means "to knead").

The most common form of Lomi massage involves gentle, rhythmic movements with fingertips or sweeping strokes with the forearms.

Our massage therapists focus on using the Lomi massage technique as part of our deep tissue massage service to release muscle tension - it's deep nurturing...and well worth experiencing for yourself. $100 for 1 hour. By appointment only.

Spring ’08 Clothing Trends

Compliments of People Magazine – StyleWatch & InStyle Magazine

(Clin-Spa has identified the trends for Spring 2008, so you don’t have too)

GET YOUR WARDROBE READY FOR BOLD PATTERNS, VIBRANT COLORS, UNUSUAL FABRIC TREATMENTS, MIXING PATTERNS, AND FUN ACCESSORIES!

http://www.people.com/people/stylewatch

1. Super Bright Colors/ Color Block Patterns: Candy Apple Red, Hot Pink, Orange, Canary Yellow, Cobalt Blue, Fuchsia, Apple Green, Lime Green, Jade, Turquoise and Bright Purple. Mix with Black &/or White or mix colors together – try fuchsia and orange together!

2. Bold Jewelry: Leave the layered look behind and embrace strong geometric shapes in copper, metal, brass, wood, resin, and plastic “retro” looks. Try painted wood bangle bracelets, colorful stretch wood bracelets or acrylic tortoise bangles.

3. Tribal, Global & Floral Patterns: Bold colored American Indian prints, leopard, giraffe-prints, and Hindu Inspired patterns in silky fabrics to give a Balinese feel, but the cut is modern. Floral “art” prints are impressionistic, abstract splatters, strokes, and shapes. Accessorize with large, beaded necklaces, and wide bangle bracelets and cuffs.

4. Ombre & Sheer Fabrics: Soft, ethereal style in gradient bright colors to soft shades, but NOT froufrou. Example: Soft fabric shirt dress in soft color with darker color fading to bottom of dress. Blouses in silk chiffon with neck tie. Pair with knee length boots or sandals. Wear sheer fabric tops with tank top or crew neck underneath.

5. Black and White – It’s the new black, in strong artistic and “mod” prints, as well as two-tone black and white graphic bags and shoes with metal accents.

6. ‘70’s Disco Glam: High waist, wide leg pants and trousers, shiny black leggings with a long top, antique-gold metal cobra chain belt, deco quilt metallic quilt bag, snake bangle bracelet.

7. Embellished Shoes and Bags: Vibrant patchwork snakeskin patterns, metallic gladiator sandals and gladiator pumps in the brown family (tan, beige, chocolate) which blend in well and elongate legs, bejeweled and studded flats, candy color bags and shoes, tribal or African print canvas shoes, T-strap brown leather or black patent sandals and wedge heels, neutral leather bags and shoes in muted shades of cream, tan and grey add a modern, elegant touch to any outfit.

8. Safari Looks and Military Chic: Think Banana Republic. Button-down shirts & jackets with button pockets, military inspiration detail, and brown belt. Pair with floral prints, white accent pieces, “top gun” leather-trimmed metal aviator sunglasses, cocktail shorts, and sandals or stilettos.

9. Full Skirts & Shirt-dresses for casual wear and Goddess dresses for formal wear: Skirts & dresses are fitted around the waist and full at the bottom, and worn with ties/bows, and super-wide or skinny belts. Look for details - trimmed with ruffles, zippers or button-down front, gathered hem, and mixed patterns, in short and long lengths. Dresses are high waist, one-shoulder, halter or tube-top styled. Skirts are pleated, with the most flattering length right above the knee. Pair with fitted tops and blouses, dip-dye color cardigan or trench coat. Goddess dresses are often a one-shoulder Grecian toga, draping, not clinging.

"I had been plagued with problem skin for all of my adult life and had taken all of the prescription medications, visited countless dermatologists and tried just about everything. After seeing Lori regulary for about 6 months, my skin was completely changed. I continue to have regular facials and purchase my skincare products from ClinSpa. I never consider going elsewhere!"

"After years of having facials, this is the one place I have searched for. Facials are given with the individual in mind; as well as the products, where the owner tries them first prior to selling. Her recommendations have proven invaluable as well."

I have seen a dramatic improvement in my skin since I began going to Clin-spa only 2 months ago. The regular treatments, the excellent-quality products I buy there, and the nutritional advice Lori provides have all contributed to dramatically reducing my adult acne. I look forward to the continued progress of my skin as I continue going to Clin-Spa!

MAKEUP TIPS & TRENDS FOR SPRING 2008

* It's all about FULL BROWS: Enhance your brows with gloMineral lash/brow serum. This stuff REALLY WORKS as I tested it myself and clients purchased, and came back to me and said, "Lori, this stuff is great-I need 2 more...one for my lashes, and one for my brows". (Serum is sooo good that glo can't keep it in stock and it's BACK-ORDERED for 5 weeks). So....Place your orders now!

Equally good, but a different approach, is glo's dual brow powder in taupe to "fill-in" the gaps between brow hairs, and get the brow arche right. Use the powder with a thin, slanted tip, synthetic brush. Apply with light pressure, in upward, feathery strokes. It's always better, and more natural looking to use brow powder in a lighter color.

* Spring 2008 is all about PASTEL color eye shadows. The look is a subtle wash of color over the lids, and slightly above, or if your shy when it comes to color, use the pastel hues as liners. Think lilac, pink, peach, light blue & green. Shimmery finishes are popular, and they give a softer look. New at Clin-Spa is glo's shimmery, mineral pastels, in a special priced trio.

* SATIN SKIN is in for spring! Start the look with glo's face primer over Epicuren's Zinc SPF, then apply your mineral makeup in downward, circular movement, using a very light touch with glo's Ultra (large, flat-top) brush. Next, use a synthetic concealer brush, and your mineral foundation, and apply mineral makeup to eye lids and under eyes, getting very close to lashes, and all around eyes. This is my # 1 makeup trick that brightens every one's eyes! It is truly amazing to see the results. If you are unsure about the technique, call me (301) 990-1991, for a free lesson, and I will show you exactly how to do this EASY technique, that will literally change your life!

If you're a little "T-Zone" oily, like me...which, by the way is good, because we want to keep our oil, since as we age, we will lose it, and then the skin drys out...not good. In the warmer climate, some skins can get a little too shiny. Two great products to try: 1. Epicuren's oil control lotion to use under zinc SPF and, 2. glo's perfecting powder to use over your mineral makeup.

* Coral, pink and natural lip colors are in, paired with copper shadow. Plump lips are still all the rage...doubtful that thin lips will ever be "in" again. But, have no fear as once again gloMinerals to the rescue with my # 1 lip plump ever created as it plumps and moisturizes and now available in tints. I've only been using the plumper for about a month or so and I'm on my 3rd tube...I put it on all day long -I just L-O-V-E this stuff!!

* Say hello to NEUTRAL NAILS and goodbye to dark nails!...Oh, I am going to miss my dark nails, as I truly think dark nails are hot, but I will be going neutral this spring. Already have a really light "poochi-pink" on my toes! Still pondering the opaque, muted shades of gray, lavender, and bone. Silver is in, and I like silver on the toes...matched with the timeless French mani...you can't go wrong, as long as your nails are short.

* I've been talking a lot about hair lately because I found the greatest hair stylest ever...and she has curly hair just like me, and has taught me sooo much about hair!

For spring, hair is DISHEVELED! Don't you just love that word? Makes me think that I can just wake-up and go because that's what my hair looks like in the morning...disheveled! Unfortunately, disheveled really means "tousled" hair...which means loose waves. Ponytails, loosely gathered and relaxed knotted buns are also in.

Here's a little trick to add some fun and sparkle to your hair: Take your favorite styling product that you use after you blow-dry and add a little "fairy dust" or glitter, and run it through your hair. Have fun!

Next time, I'll talk about fashion. A must have is GLADIATOR flat sandals! Just purchased a pair in bronze from my favorite store, Nordstroms!

MONEY-SAVING TIPS FROM COSMOPOLITAN MARCH 2008

1. Thanks to the brilliant folks at Google, instead of dialing 411 from your cell, you can text GOOGLE (46645) with the name, place, city & state, and they will text you back with the location!

2. EasyCruise.com offers low-cost cruise trips that go to the Greek islands and Turkey. For example, they have no-frills rooms for as low as $40 a night.

3. Considering your own business?? Steal other people's tricks. Set up interviews with other business owners through the National Association of Women Business Owners (nawbo.org) and the government's Office of Small Business Development Centers (sba.gov). And for free legal advice & financial advice, check out SCORE (score.org), a nonprofit association who will share their wisdom with you gratis.

4. Borrow Money-even if you don't tap into it. Wells Fargo, Wachovia, and American Express all have excellent programs, some tailored specifically to women.

5. Time it right for furniture purchases: Designers unveil new collections in October & April, so negotiate in February and March or August and September for models they want to move to make room for the new.

6. Source wisely for your wedding or other special event. You can scrimp on the photography budget by asking a news-paper photographer or a recent photojournalism grad to capture the big day at a huge discount-just check their digital portfolios in advance.

* A friend recommended an "amature" hobby-photographer for my Clin-Spa web site pictures, and I think they came out perfect!

7. Instead of using a stuffy florist, go to a speciality grocer or greenhouse for flowers.

8. Vary the venue. Offbeat spots like bed-and-breakfast, planetariums, and galleries can be more affordable than banquet halls / country clubs / fancy restaurants...and unusually fun & different...sure to be remembered by your guests. Also, avoid peak times of the year (May through October), and have an elegant lunch instead of a sit-down dinner.

INSIDER TIPS FROM CLIN-SPA

1. 3 words: Aquaphor Healing Ointment. I have been using this stuff for years. I apply it to my lips every morning and evening, to prevent them from drying, I rub it into my cuticles, and dab it on minor cuts and scratches. The #1 drug-store product.

2. My 2nd favorite money-saving, drug-store product is Maybelline EXPERT EYES 100% oil free eye makeup remover. Does the job better than any I have tried + cheap, cheap cheap. (But, I don't use this product in spa facials-I use Environ's eye makeup remover because I am loyal to my vendors + it contains a special South African tea that smells wonderful!

3. I do L-O-V-E gloMineral's makeup brush cleaner, and that is what I use at Clin-Spa, but when money is tight, Baby Magic, baby shampoo (original) with a little hot water also does the trick.

4. I'm always "trying" to do up-do's for my long hair in the summer because hair on my neck in the heat in just annoying. My 2 favorite "drug-store" products that I absolutely can't live without is A.) Goody bobby pins, and B.) Scunci "clear", no metal parts, no damage, poly bands because they hold my hair and don't fall out.

Try some of these tips, and let me know what you think...LK

Instant Color Boosters

Chemical Dying, sun, and ocean water can be harsh on your hair. According to Celeb colorist, Lorri Goddard-Clark, author of the Hair Color Mix Book, there are do-it-yourself, natural (did I say natural?), ways to enliven your shade!

FOR ALL SHADES: Coat hair from roots to ends with jojoba oil, a heavy-hitting, natural conditioner. Leave on for an hour, then shampoo for glossy, soft strands.

* Personally, I think of hair conditioner, as moisturizer for the hair. Many times I will put conditioner on my dry hair, especially covering the ends, and sleep with the conditioner on overnight! Products penetrate your hair better if you use them on dry hair. Another great hair-helper is olive oil applied to the ends, then rinse out after five minutes prior to shampoo.

Here's a once-a-week recipe for shiny hair: Mix a tablespoon each of lemon juice and white vinegar into your normal amount of shampoo for megawatt gleam. Also try a drop of peppermint oil (mentha piperita) and a drop of rosemary oil (rosmarinus officinalis) to your shampoo for sleek, summer hair!

FOR BLONDS: Saturate strands with tomato juice to counteract fading. Wrap hair in a shower cap, and heat with a blow-dryer for 5 minutes before shampooing.

FOR BRUNETTES: Add 1/4 cup vinegar to 3/4 cup water, and work through washed, towel-dried hair to boost the vibrancy of your strands. Rinse after 2 to 3 minutes.

FOR REDHEADS: For maximum shine, mix 4 T grape seed oil with 2 drops of rosemary oil. Coat on dry hair, don a shower cap, and heat 5 minutes, then shampoo.

NEW SERVICES FOR SPRING

Our Original HAND & FOOT FACIAL $40 each

Fantastic Foot Facial: A "Must-have" a week or two prior to your regular spa pedicure! This facial peel for your feet eliminates all calloused and rough areas on the bottom of your feet and toes, as well as hardened cuticles around the nails, leaving your feet baby-soft for weeks! We use layers of non-burning special acids, (as the skin on your feet don't feel the acids as your facial skin does). It's a quick, 20 minute service. Your old, calloused skin on your feet will peel off for a week or two, while you use our natural pumice stone to help rid the old skin...leaving the most softest skin ever! You will truly be amazed with the results.
____________________________________________________________________

* To Prep and maintain your feet for this "foot-facial-peel" we recommend using Environ's Dermalac twice a day on your feet. Dermalac is also great for your face, hands, neck and body. It's great because a little goes a long way. It's a dry-oil formula that is very concentrated with lactic acid, (my favorite acid, the "anti-aging acid", because it comes from milk, and lactic acid is in our body, which makes it a natural, compatible acid for our skin).
____________________________________________________________________

Handy Hand Facial: Another "Must-have" a week or two prior to your normal spa manicure. Again, using special non-burning acids, this hand peel is great for keeping hands looking young. The hand peel is so important because you can really see the aging process in the hands, especially if one takes such diligent care of the face and "forgets about their aging hands". The hand-peel is great for preventing aging by keeping hands soft and young, it also corrects aging hands by eliminating dry, wrinkled hands, sun spots, liver spots, and uneven skin tone on the hands.
____________________________________________________________________

* To Prep and maintain your hands for our special "hand-peel-facial", we also recommend Environ's Dermalac, with the addition of Environ's EssentiaA forte, which contains high concentrations of Vitamin A, soybean oil, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Sunflower seed oil, and Rosemary leaf extract, which is a great antioxidant. EssentiaA Forte is a great layering moisturizer over Dermalac for the entire body!
____________________________________________________________________

*** In addition to hand and feet peel, body peels are available for other "target" areas such as the chest, arms and legs!
____________________________________________________________________

P.S. I have religiously been using Environ's new "Body Profile", a body toning gel product for those little "bumpy-lumpy" areas...so far, I like the results!

Did you know that cleansing your face with a bar soap may dry out your skin?
Bar soaps contain dehydrating ingredients like glycerin, perfumes and artificial colors that can cause irritation.
Mild cleansers with sorbitol or ammonium sulfates with added emollients (skin softeners) may be a better choice.
Our Favorites:
1. Epionce: Gentle Foaming Cleanser
2. Epicuren: Citrus Herbal Cleanser
3. Rhonda Allison: Skin Brightening Cleanser, Citrus Cleanser & Beta Green Tea Cleanser
A great all-in-one body and face cleanser in a pump bottle is Epicurens' antibacterial, BLUE CLEANSING GEL!
